| I never thought about some people being on here just to see how many other people would approach them. I wonder how true that is. | |

| Arwen is right. There is no way the site can help us meet and greet if we aren't on it. Post stuff, stuff that will catch someone's attention. Then, let it go from there. | |

| Did you know that if you walk a mile or run a mile you burn the same amount of calories? | |

| I didn't know it was the same!! I thought that there would be some difference because of the exertion. Enlighten us, please | |

| The running does have cardiopulminary benefits...but the actual caloric content burned in both activities is the same...if you want further details I will need to address my exercise physiology book! I am getting too old! lol |

| You can't already be getting forgetful! lol :) We need details...because if I can walk and burn the same calories, why all the running? Although, when you have something to run after, that makes it more fun... | |

well like I said...The cardiopulmonary benefits from the physical exertion of running are huge and should not be forgotten...the Bones go through a process called "Wolf's law" more intensively in running; although it is seen in walking. So running improves heart and lung capacity, and creates stronger bones - Wolf's law. Lastly it could be argued that running could - if proper stretching followed - improve flexibility. Your muscles are asked to perform strength and endurance at a wider range of motion, therefore potentially increasing there length. The reason running should not be tossed aside is because of the above mentioned benefits. But also because if you only looking to burn calories - and are not interested in building more powerful heart and lungs and improving bone density (of course meaning a work/time ratio) - you can burn almost 4 times the calories by running for the same duration you plan to walk. Now after saying all that! The hardest, most trying mile I ever had to do was to speed walk a mile. It got the heart rate up, I was breathing like a walrus, and my legs went numb! This is after weeks before straight running a mile, running a mile in quarter mile bursts - 2nd most hated! - and jogging a mile. So, like all the professionals say! Do something you enjoy, always challenge your self in your selection, and ultimately your gains will be indistinguishable from those of another exercise. And this a little more complicated then just a caloric count. But, the fact is, based just on calories burned, there is no difference between walking or running a mile aside for the amount of time invested! I am not an export in this, just information I remember from a class or too in my major - excercise. |

| Wow, score one for Happy. I guess we will all be running rather than walking because of the added benefits. I honestly can't remember the last time I ran a mile. Maybe because I had to relearn to walk in the past six months. Running will have to wait but I hope to reach that goal by December. | |
