A professor was giving a lecture in a univerity. At the beginning of the lecture he took a glass jar and filled it with about 5 cm sized rocks. "Is the jar now full of rocks?" he asked his class. "Yes," answered the students. Then the professor took some smaller rocks and put them carefully between the bigger rocks. "Is the jar full?" he asked again. "Yes," replied the students. Then the professor took some sand and scattered it between the rocks. Now the students started to laugh, cuz the jar had had room for the sand, too. But the professor said: "Imagine, that this jar is your life. Big rocks are the most important things in your life: family, kids, health etc. It's all these things that, even if you lose everything else, still fill your life. Smaller rocks are less important, like work, a car, an apartment. But the sand is sanything else! Don't forget, that if you have put the sand into the jar, then it has no room for bigger and smaller rocks anymore. That's how life goes: if you fill your life with small and immaterial things, then you won't have room for big and important things. Always remember, that you could be happy. Keep a contact with friends, visit the doctor whenever you need to. There is always room for work, cleaning the house and other smaller rocks and sand. Fill your life with big rocks, cuz all the rest is just sand!" Then the professor glanced at the students once more and took out a can of beer. Carefully he poured it into the jar filled with rocks and sand, then said to the students: "But the point of this story is, that no matter what happens in your life, there's always room for one more beer." |
